1.  What’s on your holiday wishlist?
I really want a bike! I’d love to have one in the city to ride to work and get some exercise. And, I think my new Juicy knee high boots would look totally chic on a bike.
2. Without ruining any surprises, what are some of your gift ideas?
This may sound a little cheesy, but I think when you create something on your own it means the most. I love getting cards, collages, paintings, poetry as gifts—it’s from the heart!
3. The holiday season can be notoriously rough. Do you have any survival tips?
Relax! Holidays are a time to enjoy with your family and loved ones. As far as fashion tips go, add a sequin piece to your holiday wardrobe—like my sequin mini skirt above.
4. What’s your favorite holiday tradition?

My sisters and I go bowling together. It’s so random but we started it way back and do it every holiday now!

1.  What’s on your holiday wish?
I absolutely love fingerless gloves! Since I just recently lost one of my favorite ones, Juicy’s Text Me leather gloves are on my wish list for sure!
2. Without ruining any surprises, what are some of your gift ideas?
I love wrapping presents in newspaper! I’d like to call it a Caradona tradition. I used to watch my Nana wrap all the presents with the Funnies section of the paper. A perfect gift for friends this year is this Scarf Cape—you literally cannot go wrong.
3. The holiday season can be notoriously rough. Do you have any survival tips?
Double layer your tights. It keeps you warm… And, Chapstick, Chapstick, Chapstick!
4. What’s your favorite holiday tradition?
Snowball fights!!! I recently picked out this Blue Puffer coat that I know is going to be perfect for the snow. I doubt I’ll be able to hide properly with a bright blue coat, and will probably have snow in my ears and down my back (my friends don’t play nice sometimes ha ha), but it will be worth it. So, bring it on!

1. What’s on your holiday wish list?
Watches have made a big comeback in my wardrobe this year and I love this series of colorful timepieces! They’re just the thing I need to add some color to my wrist of silver and gold bracelets—and the fact that so many of my outfits consist of black and grey.

2. Without ruining any surprises, what are some of your gift ideas?

You can never go wrong with a sweater (or a bottle of wine!). As we approach the colder months I’d love to give some of my closest friends a chic, cozy sweater like this green one. Not only is it festive, but it’s also really warm!
3. The holiday season can be notoriously rough. Do you have any survival tips?
I have a tendency to turn into Will Ferrell from Elf during Christmastime, spending hours upon hours each day making sure everything sparkles and looks just right. So, this year my holiday survival tip is to remember to breathe as I’m putting ornaments on the Christmas tree, placing Nutcrackers on every mantle and putting the finishing touches on my Gingerbread house.
4. What’s your favorite holiday tradition?
My favorite holiday tradition is the Christmas Eve dinner my family hosts every year. Along with the most delectable feast, this dinner has become a tradition that includes some of my favorite people in the world. I look forward to (and talk about) this day year round.

Can you guys believe that it’s almost the holidays?  I feel like last week it was still summer!  But I love, love, LOVE this time of year, so I was especially excited when Juicy Couture asked me to answer a few holiday-themed questions for their fabulous blog!   Juicy is the epitome of all things holiday for me, with clothes that are fun, flirty and totally perfect for whatever fabulous parties you’re headed to this season!
1. What’s on your holiday wishlist?
The holidays are all about getting to indulge your inner glamour-girl: sequins, sparkles, adorable dresses and heels, are all completely necessary at this time of the year! I usually take advantage of the holidays to stock up on a few amazing pieces that are on-trend, but will last forever. Fur vests are basically my favorite item of clothing (faux, of course), and this one is beyond amazing. I love to take something simple and elegant and spice it up with a cool vest or an amazing bag (like this one or this one)!
2. Without ruining any surprises, what are some of your gift ideas?
I love to give gifts that are experiences people can look forward to—a cooking class, tickets to a play, or a plane ticket to come visit me. This is my first holiday season where I actually have to get on a plane to visit my family, so I love the idea of a gift that turns into another visit.  And if plane tickets aren’t in your budget, you can always give a cute suitcase, or an amazing scarf or cozy sweater to keep them cozy on the plane!
3. The holiday season can be notoriously rough. Do you have any survival tips?
Don’t revert back to your bratty teenage self just because you’re around your family! I *might* be guilty of this one every once in a while. It’s not much of a tip, but I always try to savor the times that my family is all together under one roof—it doesn’t happen as often as it should.
4. What’s your favorite holiday tradition?

On Christmas morning, ever since we were kids, we always open the gifts from our stockings right away, but save the presents under the tree for after breakfast. There’s something so exciting about eating pancakes in your pajamas, knowing there are presents waiting for you afterward. Kind of makes me feel like an impatient little kid again, but in a good way.

Saucy Glossie | Caped Crusader

Fall is always full of weird transition days where it’s not quite cold enough for a heavy coat, but not quite warm enough for your summer clothes anymore. This is when it comes in handy to have something in your clothing arsenal to bridge that gap.

Enter the cape!  It screams fall and has a such a cute cheeky little shape to it. Not to mention the camel color is one of the most chic colors you could ever wear. It’s classic, timeless, and pretty much goes with everything. I always picture wearing a cape with dark denim and boots, but I think it’s important to play around a bit and try mixing it with skirts or dresses… and of course, wearing socks with sandals is one of my favorite style statements this time of year!

These shots were taken in Central Park in an area that is right near my apartment.  It’s become one of my favorite places to go and just enjoy the quiet nature while staring at the big city looming in the distance.  An acorn fell and hit me on the head (true story) and I realized that even though the temperatures are still staying warm, fall is definitely here!

Saucy Glossie | The Bright + The Brave

In my last post I talked about my love for neutrals, but every once in a while I need to add in some color, especially when winter creeps up.  When I wear bright colors I always try to tone it down with something neutral, in this case this amazing faux fur jacket! I like the contrast between the two, not only in color, but also in texture. This delicious mohair sweater adds some character—it definitely takes a certain confidence and attitude to make the most of it. It’s bold and daring, yet still fun and glam, and of course, amazingly wearable. A simple pair of jeans and a neutral shoe makes sure that this look isn’t too over the top, for me at least!

Saucy Glossie | Neutral Investments

Color has been everything lately, with all the color blocking and sporting of super saturated brights, but my eye has been gravitating towards crisp neutrals in a more subdued, polished style.

There’s something about looking at each piece individually, and investing in pieces that last. Every girl should have all of these items in her closet:  A great fitting pair of ankle skimming pants (hello, shoes!), a cheeky bow blouse, and a chunky layering sweater will fill in any closet gaps. Then, adding color on top each season is easy, and the pieces feel really wearable.

I’m a self-confessed hat girl, but this is my first trial with a beret! When worn more towards the back of the head, slouchy style, it looks fresh—and the bow on this one is adorable.

These pics were taken near one of my favorite spots in Central Park and I can’t believe how fall-ish it looks outside…the leaves are already turning. Sweater weather is upon us here in the Northeast!

Saucy Glossie | A Warm Welcome for Fall

I have to say that although I’m sad that summer is leaving, I’m also really excited to start wearing fall outfits! I love being able to layer different items together because it makes dressing up more exciting. For me, the key to fall dressing is to invest in pieces that are great on their own, but also work with almost everything else I have in my closet. I try to look for things that have similar colors and definitely some great classic pieces in neutral colors like gray and camel. I can see this pink sweater dressing up a simple pair of Juicy skinnies or trouser jeans and you can never go wrong with throwing a faux fur vest over anything!

The brown floral piece is actually a dress and I layered the sweater over top to give the outfit some depth. What’s your favorite layering tip for fall?

Guest Couturist | Saucy Glossie

We’re so happy for you to get to know our September Guest Couturist, the always lovely, most of the time lady-like Lindsey Calla, aka Saucy Glossie. Enjoy! xx

1. MY FAVORITE LOCATION TO SHOOT IS: Bethesda Arcade in Central Park! It has everything that I love: beautiful columns, arches, frescos on the wall, and a clean, classical vibe.

2. WARDROBE ITEMS CURRENTLY IN TOP ROTATION:

Right now I’m loving shoes with buckles, soft cozy sweaters for fall, lace up booties, and sheer long-sleeves.

3. A TREND I WILL ALWAYS SIT OUT:

Kitten heels! Give me flats or give me platforms. There is no in between for me.

4. YOU’D LIKE TO TAKE ME OUT TO DINNER, I SUGGEST…

Shake Shack! I say this for a few reasons. You can never go wrong with cheese fries and a milkshakes. Especially when you are sitting in the park enjoying early fall weather.

5. MY GO-TO BLOGGER POSE:

I always have one foot crossed over the other, one knee possibly bent and one arm bent up with a handbag dangling. And probably huge sunglasses on my face.

6. THE SIGNATURE LOOK I WILL ALWAYS RETURN TO:

Hats! Big floppy ones preferably, but I don’t discriminate. I’ve seen a few with a stiffer brim that I like as well. I’ve been buying them in really rich colors like plum and green because it’s the best way to tie an outfit together and add some personal style.

7. IT’S 10 P.M. ON SATURDAY YOU CAN FIND ME….

Probably watching Pawn Stars, American Pickers, or reading my Nook. It depends on the weekend though. Sometimes I’ll catch up with friends for dinner but you’ll never find me stumbling out of a club at 4 a.m.

8. THE MOMENT THAT INSPIRED MY BLOG:

I was working for a magazine and someone suggested that I should start one because I always showed up to work in crazy outfits. I didn’t actually start it until I came back from living in Sydney for a bit and needed a way to keep in touch with my contacts and express my point of view. It’s crazy how much it has evolved. My style is much more restrained and polished than it was when I was younger.

9. MY STYLE ICON:

My mom because she taught me the most important skill: being chic on a budget. She called me today to tell me that she found a dress marked down to $3 and I thought, “yep, I got that gene alright.” We both are very savvy shoppers.

10. MY CURRENT NON-FASHION OBSESSION:

Antique furniture and art history! I don’t really wear vintage clothing but when it comes to the home, the older the better. I recently found a beautiful mirror from the 1930s. I love anything that has history. I could study ancient cultures for hours. I just have such a love affair with the past and always try to learn as much as possible which ultimately always ends up inspiring how I dress or decorate my apartment.

11. YOU ASK FOR MY NO. 1 STYLE TIP, I SAY …

Always look polished. You can still be creative and unique but I feel like it’s important to be a tad lady-like. I think the explosion of personal style blogs has left everyone trying to one up each other in a crazy way and it feels refreshing to stay clean and invest in really great pieces that have longevity.

12. THE BEST GIFT I EVER RECEIVED:

My MacBook. I really don’t know where I’d be without it! I also give props to anyone who gives me Calla Lilies. I feel like it should always be the obvious flower, given my name, but it doesn’t happen as often as I think it might!

13. MY FAVORITE TRAVEL DESTINATION:

I have to say Sydney even though I’ve already spent so much time there. I’m in love with the landscape, the people, the style, and the untouched beaches. It really is like heaven because you feel isolated and there’s an appreciation for the simple things there.

14. MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT L.A. IS:

I just love the weather in LA and it’s so nice having great beaches within driving distance that you can actually go to year round. You can also add driving to that list as well. I love driving! Take that, subways and walking!

15.    YOU SAY JUICY TRACKSUIT, I SAY …

Anything with an elastic waistband is a friend in my book! It’s hard to find loungy outfits that look cute. I have so many old pairs of lacrosse sweatpants from college that probably need to be retired in favor of a cute track suit.

16. MOST RECENT PURCHASE:

I recently stocked up on a gray silky shirt and an amazing gray watch with rose gold. I always end up buying special pieces but have nothing to pair them with so I’m trying to buy more basic pieces in neutral colors. I find neutrals to have a long closet shelf life and you can always accessorize them to add color later.

17.    THE LAST SONG I LISTENED TO:

I’ve been in a big Adele phase, so anything on her album has been in heavy rotation.  “Turning Tables” and “Love Song” in particular. It really depends on my mood—I can always tell what my mood was by looking at what songs I purchased at that time.

18.    THE LAST RECO-WORTHYBOOK I READ:

Ooh I have a few but you have to be into this sort of thing: Pandora’s Seed, The Mystery of 2012, and The Ice Maiden. I always stick to non-fiction unless a fiction story is based heavily on things that happened in real life.

19.    THE LAST RECO-WORTHY MOVIE I SAW:

I’m still so obsessed with An Education. Not only is the acting great and the story line amazing, but the wardrobe is to die for. It’s 1960’s London so there are some amazing swing coats and a lot of leopard print! I love when Carey Mulligan’s character goes to Paris and walks along the Seine with her shoes dangling off her fingers. It’s actually how you should dress in Paris, even now!

20.  MY CURRENT GIRL CRUSH:

Kelly Wearstler! She is 360 chic. I appreciate someone who has such an artistic eye and approach to design and fashion. I would love to get inside her head to see how she comes up with such dreamy ideas!

21. FAVORITE NAIL POLISH COLOR:

I’m boring when it comes to nails so I have to say Sugar Daddy or anything light pink and sheer. I wish I could say that I like to experiment but I have big nail beds so when I wear color it looks to overwhelming!  If I could wear anything it would probably be a smokey grey. I’m very envious of people who have great nails all the time. It is one thing I’m always trying to constantly improve upon but maybe some girls just aren’t nail girls!

The Clothes Whisperer | Go Grunge

In my second post I told you I’ve got a bit of a split personality and introduced you to TCW a la Boho? For my final post, I share with you my other better fashion half: my inner grungista. Worshiping at the altars of folks like Alexander Wang, Martin Margiela, Acne and Rick Owens, the “street” trend and fashionista habit of reverting to the classic default all-black-everything is as much in my DNA as New York City is my hometown. So for my final look, I styled up this two-textured jersey cardi from Juicy to have more of a downtown edge. Paired with a Balmain-style plain white tee resplendent with holes and an Acne maxi skirt.

So that concludes my stint here as Guest Coutourist, I hope you’ve enjoyed my posts and see you around the blogosphere! Kx
